Tiger by the Tail
A standing ovation greeted the home side and recent CUP winners Abra' Tigers to face play-off chasing St.Vincents. Both sides were depleted
due to other commitments,(national training / GAA) forcing Coach Boylan to "suit up" (just in case).
Tigers gain possession from the tip off and Fanning drove to score a lay up for the Tigers, Kenny opened his account as the teams settled
into a rapid pace as baskets were traded but the Saints had the upper hand after 6mins play forcing the Cup winning Coach to call his first time out down 17-13 .
Mooney added another 3pt'r to bring the Qtr to a close at 31 - 28 for the Saints.
Outside shooting was evident as the sides shared 7 x 3pt scores. Fanning on 17pts.. Turner on 13pts with Gamble on 10pts.
Joey McGuirk now in defence as slight changes were needed to stem Fanning running away with open shooting and his driving to the
Saints basket seemingly at will. Injuries to Turner and Emmet forced Coach Boylan to shuffle the Offensive plays instantly, to maintain the pressure
on the Tigers. Auguste eventually finding the basket for Tralee after 14 mins play, to run out top Tralee scorer on 6pts for the Qtr Kenny adding a further 10 pts
to his account to bring the half to a close 56 - 47 for the Saints.
Second half starts with a Gamble field goal as Turner now rested on 3 fouls watches from the sideline. Glasnevin's finest keeping the Tiger by the tail
outscoring with style, keeping Fanning on a 2pt Qtr , Teahan only getting his first score in this Qtr as another injury forces James out and Turner back in.
Coach Boylan wasn't needed on court this Qtr as his side had a 26pt lead at one point running out comfortably by Qtr's end up 22pts 89 - 67. When you have a
Tiger by the tail eventually it'll turn around and bite you. Fanning and Auguste roaring into action and Mooney intercepting numerous handling and passing errors
by the Saints closing the gap for the Cup winners .As Boylan's Boy's now pressed the self destruct button repeat ably up 101 - 90 with 5 min's to play on the
game clock and looking decidedly uncomfortably with the ball. Tigers adding scores all the time getting it back to a 4 pt game despite a missed lay up
by Auguste (T.G) Darling missing a couple inside late also before Turner sub's back into the game to close out Tralee and prove that the Tigers are
not to be taken for granted even down 26pts it could have been a different outcome.Saints 111 - 102 Tigers. Entertainment and drama crammed into 44 minutes.
