Saints shoot down Star

Cold and wet could only describe the conditions outside the home gym at St.Vincents as Darren O’Neill’s rising Stars arrived to
face Coach Boylan’s team. The recent slip in last weeks National Cup competition still leaving a question unanswered about the
potential of this Glasnevin Squad’s capabilities to lift silverware this season! Star had a full team lead by veteran Summersgill and
aided by a very well balanced pair of Americans in offence (Washington and Rammell). Joey B. had some injury problems with ankle
injuries and flu in the squad.Eoin darling started with Capt’n Dave and a trio of USA players .No holds barred and end to end
basketball lead Star to call an early time-out after 4mins play down 11-9 after Turner, Gamble and Trimmer combined to roll over on Star.
Pep talk over and was Coach Joey’s turn to call a rare time out, St Vincents now down 5pts after 8 min’s play 19 – 24. This was always
going to be a ding-dong battle and the packed home crowd supporters were loving it! The first Qtr finishing 31 – 26 in favour of the home team.

James D. started the second Qtr as Eoin rested, the free running game continued as Rammell added a couple of 3’s but not to be out
done outside shooter James added a couple of his own. Summersgill went to the line to score 6.from 7. Turner getting 6.from 6. at the line as
Star now with the upper hand lead by 4pts at Half Time 51 – 55.

Rammell top scoring for the half on 19pts. Turner on 17pts for St. Vincents , Gamble now on 13pts. Gamble and Turner were always going to be a
problem for any visiting team and Star’s coach found out as they combined in offence to overturn the deficit by 4pts after 5min’s play. Star called
another time-out St.Vincents up by 68 – 64. Trimmer shutting shop on Stars offence falling foul of the “officials” now on the sideline!!!
Rammell stretch Stars lead with a long 3, with Joe McGuirk adding a 3 to open his account for St.Vincents as they trailed the visitors
78 – 81 at the end of the 3rd Qtr.

This was certainly a close contest up for grabs for either team as we started the 4th Qtr. Rammell popping another 3 as the sides
traded baskets and leap frogged each other for the lead in this entertaining final Qtr. Turner and Gamble hassled the boards and
picked up charity shots, Washington and Rammell now both on 4 fouls with Trimmer guarding the home basket it fell to
Scotty to resurrect the offence. The sides level for the umpteenth time 90 – 90 at 5.30 to play,,,,,94 – 93 at 4min,,,,,, 96 – 97 at 3 min,,,,
99 – 98 at 2 mins,,,,, tick - tock ,, Joey McGuirk with a killer 3pt-er breaking the deadlock as Rammell’s shot rimmed out. Star now on
their last time out down 102 – 98 and the home team capitalising with another score to lead 107 – 99 with 1min to play.
Trimmer guarding and blocking shots at will closed the door on a gallant effort from Star. Rammell now on 40pts but
NOT game top scorer !!!!! Turner taking that honour on a massive 41pts ! Gamble 33pts.
Washington (Star) 27pts.
