DCU Saints v Killester

15 October 2009

DCU Saints V Killester

15/ 10 / 2009.

Another Thursday night fixture for the Saints as they faced their nearest neighbours and former  N’ Conference NFM S/league champions.

A full squad was available for both coaches and ex teammates of yester-year Vinny O Keeffe and Mark Keenan…. Formalities over and it’s game on as Killester open their account with two unanswered 3 point scores and strong play from their starting 5 (all scoring this Qtr). The Saints will rue the missed opportunities later on, but turn in a respectful performance against the visitors, Qtr end DCU 17 --  29 Killester.

Captain Mike Trimmer steps up to be counted as the Saints settle down to close the gap as two ex co-players (J. Turner) trade basket for basket and it’s an inside contest under the basket for most of this Qtr. Emmet plugs away at the staunch Killester defence and reaps the benefit of aggressive offence play (100% from the F/throw line) Martin Provizors assisting on the follow through play adding to his totals and the DCU Saints score line. H/Time DCU 35 – 50 Killester.

Former St Vincent’s player Pete Madsen has the spotlight for the 3rd Qtr with a top scoring 10pts as the gap widens between the two sides. The Saints although nearly matching Killester score for score this Qtr (22-25) it’s the visitors that look the more comfortable on the ball and keep a tight grasp on the job in hand. DCU Saints 47 – 75 Killester.

It’s a up hill task for the Saint’s during the 4th Qtr and with Killester not missing much from the arc (Clark, Anderson, Goj and Westbrook’s all scoring 3’s) the curtain falls on this fixture as J. T. watches from the sideline. The Saint’s are stuck in 2’nd gear for most of this fixture and await the dormant potential that lurks in this talented Squad and as yet, missing on the basketball court.
