Children at St Vincent’s

  • Entitled to help from bullies
  • Entitled to respect and protection
  • Should respect players, adults and officials
  • Should play fairly
  • Should speak out if they have a problem
  • Should not bully or use physical contact
  • Should not take banned substances
  • Should not keep secrets, spread rumours

Parents at St Vincent’s

  • Should support/ encourage their children
  • Should applaude good play on both sides
  • Should promote good sportsmanship
  • Should satisfy themselves about travel arrangements
  • Should not embarrass/ ridicule
  • Should not openly challenge officials etc.
  • Should not place undue pressures

Coaches and Managers at St Vincent's

  • Should prioritise children’s safety & enjoyment
  • Should actively discourage drugs etc.
  • Should be generous in praise/ encouragement
  • Should avoid 1:1 contact with players
  • Should obtain consent from parents regarding travel arrangements 
  • Should not ridicule/ embarrass
  • Should not make winning the only objective
  • Should not set unrealistic goals for players

Suggested procedure

  • Encourage children to be open about their anxieties
  • Firstly discuss issue with team coach
  • Bring unresolved issues to the attention of Brendad Bartley please
  • A committee deals with written complaints
  • Prevention is better than cure! Adherance to guidelines should optimise children’s welfare
